Nightdive Studios Announces The Thing: Remastered

Remastered Edition of Cult-Classic Survival Horror Game Serves as a Continuation of Universal Pictures’ Genre-Defining 1982 Film, The Thing

Today at the inaugural IGN Live, Nightdive Studios has officially announced The Thing: Remastered in collaboration with Universal Products & Experiences. It’s time to get ready for a chilling adventure as Nightdive Studios, the renowned video game remaster developer and subsidiary of iconic brand Atari, announces a gruesome return to one of the most influential horror films of all time in the form of a video game.

The Thing: Remastered is a faithful restoration of the cult-classic 2002 third-person survival horror shooter game that was inspired by Universal Pictures’ genre-defining 1982 film, The Thing. This thrilling game has been upgraded for modern gaming devices with Nightdive Studios’ proprietary KEX Engine, providing players with an immersive experience at up to 4K resolution and 120FPS. The game features revamped character models, textures, and animations, along with advanced 3D rendering for enhanced lighting and atmospheric effects, making it a truly terrifying remaster for modern audiences.

Larry Kuperman, Director of Business Development at Nightdive Studios, expressed his excitement about working on such an iconic project, saying, “Many of us at Nightdive Studios are huge fans of the horror genre, and it’s an incredible honor to work on the iconic The Thing. The 1982 film is a masterpiece and one of the most impactful pieces of art in the horror genre. With The Thing: Remastered, we’re paying homage to that legacy and Computer Artworks’ incredible game inspired by the story that further expanded the lore.”

In The Thing: Remastered, players take on the role of Captain J.F. Blake, the leader of a United States Army Special Forces rescue team sent to investigate the chilling events that occurred in the original The Thing film. The game is set in the frozen arctic tundra, where a shape-shifting alien has wiped out the crew of the U.S. Outpost #31 research facility. Trapped in a remote and hostile environment, players must work together with their team to survive the dangers of this brutal world and uncover the truth behind the mysterious alien entity.

The gameplay is filled with suspense, fear, and paranoia as players must navigate the hostile environment while managing their team’s trust and keeping their own fears in check. Much like the film, the game’s setting and storyline are sure to keep players on the edge of their seats. With improved graphics and a revamped engine, The Thing: Remastered promises to be an even more intense and terrifying experience compared to its original release in 2002.

The game will be released later this year on various gaming platforms, including Windows PC via Steam and GOG, PlayStation 4|5, Xbox One and Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. Fans of the horror genre and The Thing franchise can look forward to revisiting this iconic story and experiencing it in a whole new way. So, get ready to face your fears and join Captain J.F. Blake on a suspenseful journey through the frozen arctic tundra in The Thing: Remastered.
