Aura of Worlds

Roguelite Platformer Aura of Worlds Headed to Switch in Q2, 2024

In a world full of complex video games, sometimes it’s nice to find one that challenges your wit and reflexes without relying on stats. That’s exactly what Aura of Worlds, the chaotic creative tactics roguelite, offers to players. And after 6 years of updates on Steam Early Access, the game is finally getting a Switch port and a full 1.0 release later this year.

Developed by Cognitive Forge, a small team based in Victoria, Australia, Aura of Worlds has already captured the attention of players with its pixel-perfect visuals and earworm-worthy chiptune soundtrack. But it’s the game’s unique approach to gameplay that truly sets it apart. Players must navigate ever-changing death labyrinths, using improvisation and knowledge to turn adversity into advantage.

The game presents players with tough decisions, such as whether to loot a cursed treasure chest or wield it as a weapon. And in Aura of Worlds, crazy often works to your advantage. You can choose to blink, bounce, grapple, or fly across treacherous lava pits, or simply blow them up in a glorious spray of embers.

But the beauty of Aura of Worlds lies in its challenging traps, with multiple solutions. Go on the defensive with a spear and energy shield, or take a more aggressive approach with a boomerang, grappling hook, and a grin. And with over 100 unique enemies and traps, along with 12 randomized level themes, there is no shortage of challenges to conquer.

Anthony Liew, the programmer and development lead at Cognitive Forge, explains the game’s inspiration:
“At the start of development – way back in 2013! – Aura of Worlds was inspired by games like Terraria, Dishonored, Spelunky, and various roguelites where simple interactions often lead to complex outcomes.”
He also adds, “After receiving some incredible player feedback on Steam, we’re now getting ready for the full 1.0 release, along with a much-requested Nintendo Switch port.”

The game’s key features include its challenging traps with multiple solutions, endless levels with over 100 unique enemies and traps, and a wide array of skills that allow players to grab, throw, hack, light, parkour, terraform, and even warp time itself. And let’s not forget the gorgeous pixel art, hand-crafted by the talented Rex Smeal, Han Cheon, Danika Clark, Lauren Temos (T-Dog-eXtreme), Jessica T., and August Cartland.

It’s clear that a great deal of love has gone into this game, from both the developers and the artists.

But it’s not just the visuals that are immersive. The game also boasts a memorable score and sound effects from the prolific Mat Dwyer and Amanda J. Lim, adding to the overall experience.

Currently available on Steam Early Access for only $14.99, Aura of Worlds offers players a unique and challenging adventure. And with the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch port and full 1.0 release coming in early Q2 of 2024, the excitement for this game continues to grow.

Don’t miss your chance to experience the chaotic and creative world of Aura of Worlds.
