Fellow Traveller announces Pine: A Story of Loss, a reflective game of love, life and letting go

Launching on Nintendo Switch, PC, and mobile, this short but meaningful game, Pine: A Story of Loss, blends hand-drawn illustrations, and captivating music with wordless storytelling to convey one man’s journey of grief

Today, Fellow Traveller, a leading publisher of narrative games, announced their partnership with New York-based developer Made Up Games for their highly anticipated debut game, Pine: A Story of Loss. Set to release in late 2024 on Nintendo Switch, PC, and mobile platforms, Pine: A Story of Loss is a deeply emotional and reflective experience that follows the story of a grieving woodworker.

The game immerses players in the life of the woodworker as he struggles to come to terms with the recent passing of his beloved wife. Through wordless interaction and stunning hand-drawn animations, Pine: A Story of Loss tells a poignant tale of loss and memory. With each changing season, the woodworker is faced with the daily challenge of completing simple tasks while being bombarded by memories of his past life with his wife.

As players navigate through the woodworker’s world, they are drawn into an immersive experience with environmental storytelling, ambient soundscapes, and an original musical score. From tending to his garden and gathering wood for the winter, to capturing moments with his wife through intricate wood carvings, players must navigate through interactive puzzles and mini-games in order to progress.

Inspired by works such as N.C. Wyeth’s impressionistic landscapes and classic comics like Tintin, Pine: A Story of Loss features stunning artwork that serves as the perfect backdrop for the woodworker’s emotional journey. The game’s beautiful backgrounds contrast beautifully with the clean and crisp character animations, further enhancing the overall immersive experience.

Made Up Games, the developers behind Pine: A Story of Loss, are led by professional illustrator and children’s book author Tom Booth and programmer Najati Imam. The idea for Pine first came to Booth after experiencing a tragic loss in his life. The woodworker, who is the heart and soul of the game, was first conceived in a sketch by Booth that struck a chord with fans all over the world. This outpouring of support inspired Booth and Imam to bring the woodworker’s story to life, creating an emotional and interactive experience that reminds us all that we are never alone in our loss.

With its unique blend of gameplay and storytelling, Pine: A Story of Loss is designed to be enjoyed in one or two sittings. It promises to be a powerful and unforgettable experience for players of all ages. As Fellow Traveller and Made Up Games continue to work on Pine, fans can look forward to updates and announcements in the coming years.

Pine: A Story of Loss is set to release in late 2024, and it is sure to be a game that will touch the hearts of many.
