Highly anticipated FMV follow-up The Shapeshifting Detective releases today

Peterborough, NOVEMBER 6th 2018. The Shapeshifting Detective, the latest video game from Wisbech-based indie developer D’Avekki Studios, releases today for PC, Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch.

With over 1600 full HD videos and a dozen cast, The Shapeshifting Detective is the studio’s second FMV (full motion video) game, following 2017’s Guinness World Record-breaking The Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker, and is published by Wales Interactive (Late Shift, Time Carnage).

The game invites the player to take on the role of a detective known only as ‘Sam’ who is sent to the town of August to investigate the murder of a young redhead. Players question suspects and can shapeshift into any character they meet to expose private conversations and hidden motives. Players can also gamble using the unique ‘delete’ mechanic which may lead to characters revealing more than they would through straight questioning.

“The Shapeshifting Detective blurs the lines between interactive films and FMV games, and we hope it appeals to both audiences equally,” says director Tim Cowles. “There’s a lot of multiple choice dialogue but the game won’t automatically choose for you, so you can play at your own pace and your choices will matter.”

The Shapeshifting Detective contains over 5 hours of video and a streaming in-game radio station featuring 10 voiceover artists, including YouTube star Jesse Cox and gaming legend Chris Jones (aka Tex Murphy). Development lasted 10 months and the entire game was filmed in Wisbech, King’s Lynn and Peterborough.
