Prison City

Your sentence has begun… in Prison City!!

You are the only one qualified for this mission. Will you accept it??

Retroware and Programancer have teamed up to bring you Prison City, a new action-packed, dystopian side-scroller. Battle techno-terrorists with your chakram and grenades as former cop Hal Bruzer, in an intense game of strategy and decision-making. Explore 8+ diverse zones, discover secrets and upgrades, and use customizable difficulties and gameplay experiences to your advantage.

With tight mechanics and intricate level design, Prison City is presented in a retro-style, comparable to a late NES game.

In addition to the base game, Prison City includes a Bomb Mode, where the player has to traverse a randomly generated environment to find a bomb and diffuse it before time runs out. There’s also a Boss Mode, where the player has to battle against three different bosses across three different stages. And to add a unique twist, there’s even a talking dolphin 🐬!

Programancer, a Michigan-based dev, artists, and programmer behind a number of retro-inspired titles, is the host of the yearly itch.io RetrogradeJam and the creator of Prison City. Two goals were kept in mind during development: Reusing systems and packages from their other games to make a killer gameplay experience as quickly as possible; and making a game that feels heavy, yet kinetic, and aesthetically inspired by seminal games such as Shatterhand and Power Blade.

Ready to take on techno-terrorists and fight to take back Prison City? Prison City is available now on Steam and the Epic Game Store, and on November 16th for Nintendo Switch, Xbox One/X/S, and PlayStation 4/5.
