The game’s sound effects and music are great ambient experiences that foster a relaxing, casual gaming experience where you are safe from the dangers of Gargamel, Azrael, or Hogatha. “The Smurfs: Colorful Stories” runs smoothly on the original Nintendo Switch, with quick loading times and no noticeable bugs or glitches. Newer versions of the Switch should be no challenge. Comparison and Context:

Compared to other coloring games, “The Smurfs: Colorful Stories” stands out for its rich content and faithful adaptation of The Smurfs’ universe. It meets expectations set by its promotional material, delivering a delightful and engaging experience. To some extent, I would say it exceeds it by the amount of content included and the ability to make your own scenes. It is a great game if you have run out of scenes through your existing coloring games and need to scratch that coloring itch if you are new to The Smurfs.

Personal Opinion:

As a long-time fan of The Smurfs, which my first Smurfs game was for the ColecoVision that I should still have in storage, I found “The Smurfs: Colorful Stories” to be a throwback to nostalgia and keeping it fresh with a modern twist by incorporating a coloring mechanic. Coloring apps, whether paint by number or choose your own, have become a popular type of game. The character design has stayed consistent throughout the years too, which is a bonus. These characters are closer to the style of the 2010s movies.

As someone who uses an iPad Pro with a second-generation Apple Pencil, it took me a while to get used to the method of drawing with my fingertip, but I was able to adapt and found the touchscreen capabilities of the Nintendo Switch to draw helpful. Although, it would be helpful to have a fill tool to avoid unnecessary frustration trying to get something perfect – which I imagine the native drawing input mechanic is less of a concern for a kid with little fingers than an adult with larger hands.

If I could change one thing, I would do more with the Switch by adding the ability to use some sort of screen-safe stylus such as the one used for the Nintendo DS and 3DS, or even the Apple Pencil. While it does not have to add any functionality, it might enhance the experience. Maybe that is an idea for the Nintendo Switch 2 or whatever they will call its successor. That would be a game changer to incorporate some of those functions from the Nintendo DS and 3DS. The combination of engaging scenes, charming characters, and vibrant visuals made for an enjoyable experience that I would recommend to anyone looking for a coloring escape.

Conclusion:

In summary, “The Smurfs: Colorful Stories” is a charming and engaging game that brings the magic of The Smurfs to life through your own creativity by adding color. With its beautiful graphics, intuitive interface, and extensive content, it offers a delightful experience for players of all ages.
