Indonesian horror sequel DreadOut 2 to launch January 18th

The third-person terrifying adventure inspired by Indonesian folklore and urban legend is finally making its way to the Switch

Soft Source Publishing and Digital Happiness are thrilled to announce the digital release of DreadOut 2 on the Nintendo eShop, set for 18th January 2024. This highly anticipated horror game has been a smash hit in Indonesia since its first release in 2014 and is finally making its way to the Nintendo Switch, bringing spine-tingling scares to players around the world.

Following the success of the original DreadOut, the sequel takes players on a haunting journey through the eyes of Linda, a high school student with a unique supernatural power – the ability to sense and see ghosts. As she unravels the mysteries of her hometown, she must use her powers to hunt and defeat the nightmarish spirits and dark forces threatening not just her town but all of mankind.

One of the most exciting features of DreadOut 2 is the upgraded gameplay, which includes all-new melee combat and an increased focus on puzzles and exploration. But what truly sets this game apart from other horror releases is the ability to use Linda’s smartphone as a weapon against the evil entities. With the power of the camera and other weapons at her disposal, players must banish the spirits and survive the terrifying encounters.

Delving deeper into Indonesian folklore, DreadOut 2 takes players on a journey through Linda’s hometown and beyond, where they will encounter a variety of ghosts and urban legends. Completing side-quests and uncovering local myths through the Ghostpedia app on Linda’s smartphone adds to the overall immersive experience.

Bravery will be put to the test as players face off against chilling boss spirits, such as the Kuntilanak and the horrifying Gore Surgeon. These supernatural beings will challenge the player’s nerves and skills, making for a truly terrifying experience.

According to Rachmad Imron of Digital Happiness, the developers of DreadOut 2, “With this sequel, we wanted to build on what makes this horror franchise unique. We have incorporated more Indonesian folklore in the enemy design and throughout the story, while keeping the smartphone mechanic as a central feature. We are excited about bringing the game to the Switch and can’t wait to see what players in the west make of it.”

Bernard Lim of Soft Source Publishing also expressed his excitement about the game’s release, stating, “We are extremely proud of DreadOut 2‘s success in Asia, and we are thrilled to bring it to the Nintendo Switch. We can’t wait for players to experience the many improvements and upgrades in this sequel and look forward to their reactions.”

So, mark your calendars for 18th January 2024 and prepare to enter a world of dread, where ghosts and other evil entities lurk around every corner. DreadOut 2 promises to be a thrilling horror adventure like no other, with its unique gameplay, immersive storytelling, and terrifying encounters. Get ready to face your fears on the Nintendo Switch!
