Chicago-based developer and music producer, Sam Enright, has announced the launch of his new 2.5D adventure-RPG, Beyond Galaxyland. Developed under indie publisher United Label, the game is set to launch on various platforms, including PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One later in 2024.

The game follows the story of high-schooler Doug who finds himself in the midst of an unknown celestial destruction known only as ‘The End’. As Earth is about to meet its demise, Doug is transported to Galaxyland, a solar system filled with diverse and exotic planets. But as he explores this seemingly perfect world, he soon realizes that things may not be as they seem. Joined by his trusty pet guinea pig, Boom Boom, a sentient robot named MartyBot, and other quirky companions, Doug sets out on a galactic quest to uncover the truth about Galaxyland and potentially save his home planet.

Beyond Galaxyland offers a refreshing take on traditional RPG games, combining platforming and puzzle-solving elements with an engaging active turn-based combat system. Players will journey through a variety of visually stunning worlds, from blizzard-swept plains to neon-lit cities and even cybernetic casinos. With each planet presenting its own unique challenges, players must use their wits and skills to progress through the game.

One of the key features of Beyond Galaxyland is its active turn-based combat system. Players must strategically engage in battles with a wide range of enemies, using time-responsive defensive maneuvers to minimize damage. Beyond Galaxyland is the brainchild of Sam Enright, who has drawn inspiration from his love for classic turn-based RPGs from the 1990s such as Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VII. Enright aims to create a game that offers a cinematic experience while still staying true to its RPG roots. According to Enright, the game’s pacing will often feel closer to a movie than a traditional video game, creating a more intimate and personal gaming experience.
