Multi-talented team to announce the Swedish video game Molly Medusa: Queen of Spit

Prominent Swedish developer announces Molly Medusa: Queen of Spit, a gravity-bending 3D adventure where everyone turns to stone.

Indie game developer (Yono And The Celestial Elephants, Belladonna), musician and debut book author Niklas Hallin has teamed up with Burning Planet, aka Max Malmquist and Karl Rosqvist, who both have a long background in punk rock/metal bands such as Danzig, Junk Stars and Michael Monroe. Now they are ready to reveal their next project.

“I’m a solo game developer from Sweden. In 2017 I released Yono and the Celestial Elephants, a Zelda-like adventure about a young and naive elephant god. The time has finally come for my next big game, Molly Medusa: Queen of Spit, and this time we’re making full use of 3D space!”, celebrates Niklas Hallin.

Poor Molly! A sculptor’s apprentice cursed into a snake-haired Medusa – and so, every living thing she goes near instantly turns into a stone statue. Every living thing! Enemies and friends, bosses and shopkeepers, monsters and allies, even animals and small insects, they all turn to stone.

Molly’s quest takes her through a series of mystical temples, as she struggles with loneliness and alienation. Inside these temples gravity is “local”. Molly’s “down” is calculated from the surface she’s currently standing on, which means she can easily walk up walls, or upside down in the ceiling. This allows the level design to twist in on itself, and curl into labyrinths that are physically impossible. Petrified enemies accompany gravity puzzles and non-euclidean architecture, in M. C. Escher scavenger hunts

Molly Medusa: Queen of Spit will be released on the Nintendo Switch in spring 2023.
