New York City, Oct. 29, 2019 – The New York Videogame Critics Circle will honor former President and COO of Nintendo of America, Reggie Fils-Aimé, with its Andrew Yoon Legend Award at the 9th annual New York Game Awards ceremony on January 21, 2020 at SVA Theatre in Manhattan. The Legend Award recognizes individuals and organizations that exhibit a significant, sustained body of work that shows exceptional achievement and innovation. Past recipients of the award include Jade Raymond, Richard Garriott, Todd Howard, Rockstar Games and Ralph Baer.
“We present Reggie with the organization’s Legend Award as a sign of our continued gratitude and admiration for his positive and lasting impact on the video game industry,” said New York Videogame Critics Circle founder and board president, Harold Goldberg. “Never before have we seen such a dynamic and captivating, yet approachable executive lead a gaming company and create such change in the industry.”
“I’m humbled and honored to be recognized with this award from an organization that I respect and admire,” said Reggie Fils-Aimé. “My passion for the work being done by the members of the New York Videogame Critics Circle inspires me to also give back to the community by participating in the mentoring and educational pursuits the organization does for students in the NYC area.”
A newly named member of the board of directors for the New York Videogame Critics Circle, Reggie recently retired from Nintendo of America, where in 2006 he was promoted to President and COO after leading the marketing organization as Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing from 2003. He is known and respected as a thought-leader and visionary throughout the gaming industry and is currently Managing Partner at Brentwood Growth Partners and a Leader-in-Residence at Cornell University.
Tickets are now on sale for the 9th Annual New York Game Awards here. Tickets include free game codes and an after-party with an open bar where attendees can rub elbows with game developers, Critics Circle members and award winners. Every ticket sale contributes to the community, as all ticket sale proceeds that the New York Videogame Critics Circle earns from the New York Game Awards goes back into the non-profit organization to help with mentoring, scholarships and workshops in the New York City-area.
For those who cannot attend the New York Game Awards, the event will be livestreamed via Mixer and Twitch; livestream details will be announced closer to the event.
