Pokémon returns to US movie theaters this Thanksgiving

The latest Pokémon film, Pokémon the Movie: The Power of Us, arrives in theaters for a limited engagement courtesy of Fathom Events.

Pokémon fans will have a good reason to head out to the theater later this year when the newest Pokémon animated film comes to the big screen this holiday season. Pokémon the Movie: The Power of Us will have a limited theatrical release through Fathom Events on November 24, 26, and 28, as well as December 1.

You can check out the trailer for Pokémon the Movie: The Power of Us right here:

Pokémon the Movie: The Power of Us tells the story of Ash and Pikachu as they journey to a small seaside town filled with a diverse set of characters.  Ash and Pikachu end up in a tiny town by the sea, where the townspeople worship the legendary Pokémon Lugia. (No word on if this town is set in Johto, Lugia’s home region; the poster sure suggests that’s the case, with all those good Johto Pokémon on it.) Something bad happens, as per usual; Ash and Pikachu are the only ones who can save the town, as per usual. Joining our favorite interlopers is a crew of locals that The Pokémon Company describes as including “a compulsive liar” and “a bitter old woman.” Ash sure knows how to pick his new friends.

Every year, the townspeople gather to celebrate the Legendary Pokémon Lugia, who brings the wind that saved the town from destruction many years ago. The festival is a time for celebration, with a Pokémon Catching Race and a ceremonial flame burning brightly to summon Lugia. But when a series of incidents threatens not just the festival, but all the people and Pokémon who call the town home, it’s going to take more than just Ash and Pikachu to save the day. Will these people be able to put aside their differences and work together to rescue their town? Or will it all end in destruction?
