Sabotage and Devolver Digital have released the critically-acclaimed ninja adventure The Messenger on Nintendo Switch and PC. Hailed as ‘the best retro tribute since Shovel Knight’ in a flurry of rave reviews, The Messenger arrives as one of the best reviewed Nintendo Switch games of the year.
The Messenger’s launch is heralded by Shinobi No Kikan, a short film that mixes live action, animated sprites, and gameplay into an abridged story of the game’s hero as he sets out on his seemingly impossible quest. Directed and produced by Imagos Films, Shinobi No Kikan is available to watch on YouTube and Steam.
Since its announcement, The Messenger has garnered attention and awards throughout development and has become one of the most anticipated indie Nintendo Switch releases of the year. Players assume the role of a nameless ninja warrior venturing through a cursed world on a mission to deliver a scroll paramount to his clan’s survival as a demon army besieges his village.
