Nintendo Reveals Software and Hardware Sales Data for Q1 2018

switch logo mediumNintendo has announced its financial results for the first quarter of the current fiscal year, which covers the period from April through  June 2018. In the report, the company has given sales-to-date figures for its current hardware, as well as data specific to the quarter.

Hardware

Switch hardware sales hit 1.88 million units for this quarter (That’s a small  4.4% drop on a year-to-year basis), while Switch software hit 17.96 million units (a BIG 120.8% increase from last year).

The 3DS has now reached 72.89 million consoles sold, with a humongous 367.84 million games sold to date. 3DS sold 0.36 million units this quarter (61.9% down on last year), while 2.95 million software units were sold (49.6% lower).

NES Classic Edition returns June 29, 2018In Addition, the relaunched NES Classic Edition racked up sales of 1.26 million units. Smartphone revenue reached 9.0 billion yen / $80 million (a very modest 0.4% increase). The poor old Wii U, in case you were wondering, has only managed 13.56 million consoles to date, with 102.28 million units of software sold since launch. R.I.P.

The powerful performance of the Switch has enabled Nintendo to post net sales of $1,513 billion – an increase of 9 percent on last year – while actual profit is $394.6 million (a 42% jump over last year).

The company has revealed how many units their biggest titles for the Switch system have sold and it is the wonderful Super Mario Odyssey that has topped the sales chart.

  1. Super Mario Odyssey – 11.17m (+ 760k)
  2. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – 10.35m (+ 1.13m, nothing else is even close)
  3. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – 9.32m (+ 840k)
  4. Splatoon 2 – 6.76m (+740k wow close to Odyssey)
  5. 1-2 Switch – 2.45m (+ 160k)
  6. ARMS – 2.01m (+ 160k, even with 1-2)
  7. Kirby Star Allies – 1.89m (+630k)
  8. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 – 1.42m (+110k)
  9. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze – 1.40 million
  10. Nintendo Labo – 1.39m combined
  11. Mario Tennis Aces – 1.38m combined

These figures are all lifetime sales, spanning from the games’ individual initial release dates to 30th June 2018.
