First-Ever Nationwide Wii Tournament Kicks Off July 16 at Liberty State Park with Special Appearance by Olympic Gold Medalist Shawn Johnson
WHAT:
Nintendo is hosting a kickoff event at Liberty State Park on July 16 to celebrate the first-ever nationwide Wii™ video game tournament. Participants will get off the couch and on their feet for a chance to win great prizes while having fun playing Nintendo's motion-control video games together – whether they're kids, adults, teens, seniors or families. Olympic gold medalist and Dancing with the Stars champion Shawn Johnson, the official Wii Games: Summer 2010 Ambassador, will make a special appearance to greet participants and fans.
Wii Games: Summer 2010 events will also offer fun activities for consumers and families who aren't competing in tournament play. Attendees and spectators can participate in noncompetitive demos and sample other Wii games, such as Super Mario Galaxy™ 2 and Punch-Out!!™. Subsequent events will be held throughout the summer at Six Flags theme parks and select shopping malls across the country. NINTENDO DS AND WII TOP U.S. VIDEO GAME HARDWARE SALES IN MAY
July 1, 2010 - Nintendo's video game systems again increased their lead versus other platforms in May, according to the independent NPD Group, which tracks video game industry sales in the United States. The Nintendo DS™ family of portable systems took the top hardware spot with more than 383,000 sold, with sales representing more than 86 percent of all hand-held gaming platform units sold during the month. Nintendo's Wii™ home console followed at No. 2 with more than 334,000 sold.
Four of the top 10 best-selling games of May play on Nintendo systems. These include Super Mario Galaxy™ 2 at No. 3 with more than 563,000 sold, New Super Mario Bros.™ Wii at No. 6 with more than 183,000 sold, Wii Fit Plus with the Wii Balance Board at No. 7 with more than 161,000 sold and Pokémon™ SoulSilver Version at No. 8 with more than 141,000 sold.
"These May results show that consumers are really responding to the value proposition of our new Wii configuration that now includes Wii Sports Resort and a Wii MotionPlus accessory," said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. "May also saw the launch of two great games: Super Mario Galaxy 2 for Wii and Picross 3D for Nintendo DS. They preface the steady drumbeat of big games for the second half of 2010 we announced at the E3 Expo that will keep fans engaged and having fun."
Nintendo launched Sin & Punishment™: Star Successor for Wii on June 27. Other Wii games on the horizon include Metroid™: Other M launching on Aug. 31, Samurai Warriors™ 3 on Sept. 27, Kirby's Epic Yarn™ and Wii Party™ this fall, and Donkey Kong Country™ Returns, FlingSmash™ and PokéPark™ Wii: Pikachu's Adventure for the holidays.
For the Nintendo DS family of systems, Nintendo launched 100 Classic Books on June 14. Dragon Quest® IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies launches July 11, followed by Professor Layton and the Unwound Future™ on Sept. 20, Pokémon Ranger™: Guardian Signs this fall and both Golden Sun™: Dark Dawn and Mario vs. Donkey Kong™: Mini-Land Mayhem for the holidays.

SETH GREEN STARS IN TELEVISION CAMPAIGN FOR DRAGON QUEST IX: SENTINELS OF THE STARRY SKIES
June 30, 2010 - Actor/producer Seth Green will appear in new ads for Nintendo's forthcoming DRAGON QUEST IX®: Sentinels of the Starry Skies™ video game, lending his personality to two different ads highlighting the game. In the campaign, Green uses examples of the game's deep customization options to help teens make decisions about which friend they should take to a concert, and what to wear on a date. The first of the humorous ads will premiere in U.S. movie theaters today prior to screenings of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, and is currently airing on television.
Launching exclusively for the Nintendo DS™ family of hand-held game systems on July 11, DRAGON QUEST IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies is the latest entry in the popular DRAGON QUEST adventure series. It includes rich customization options that allow players to create their own in-game characters using a vast selection of clothing, weapons, special items and abilities. Players can also connect wirelessly with friends and share their adventure at any time in a cooperative multiplayer mode. The game has already become a social phenomenon in Japan, selling 4.2 million units.
Seth Green is co-creator/executive producer/co-writer/co-director/main voice talent for the Emmy-winning Robot Chicken series, which airs on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. Green won Annie Awards for directing and writing the Robot Chicken: Star Wars specials, which both debuted as the No. 1 TV DVD upon release. He's an executive producer and voices the villain in Adult's Swim's Titan Maximum. He and his Stoopid Monkey Prods. partner, Matthew Senreich, are also consulting on Lucasfilm's animated STAR WARS comedy series and are doing a pilot presentation for Fox.
